Lost Lake Trail Run-Video

On August 22nd, I had the privilege of participating in the Lost Lake Run as part of team Rugidly Sophisticated Female. The Lost Lake Run is more than just a trail race; its main purpose is to raise funds to discover a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Since the first race in 1992, it has raised over $2 million for the cause.

I was invited to join the team in the spring, which was a huge opportunity since the race fills up quickly and can be hard to get into. Being a part of a team added the bonus of training, fundraising, and enjoying the race weekend with other ladies. The night before the race, a group of five of us drove to Seward for the bib pick-up and spaghetti feed, where we met more teammates. After dinner, we spent the night with other teammates, then bright and early the next morning, headed to the high school for our bus ride to the start of the race.

Prior to race day, I had only ever biked the trail, and even that was over ten years ago. As we started our race, I found myself enjoying the trail from this new perspective. The trail started with a gradual incline winding through the trees, and when it got steeper around miles four and five, it was broken up by sections of downhill. Eventually, we broke out of the trees into views of the lakes peeking out from beneath the low layer of clouds. Nature provided fresh blueberries and salmonberries, and once at mile ten, all that was left was six miles of gradual downhill towards the finish.

Here’s a short video recap of our wet, yet wonderful day on the Lost Lake trail.
