Landing in Lake Clark Pass

Over the years we’ve flown through Lake Clark Pass many times in all sorts of weather.

At the top of the pass theres a small strip surrounded by two glaciers, a river, and two nearby lakes (Summit & Glacier Lake). I’ve wanted to check out this spot for a while, but usually we are either excited to get to Port Alsworth and don’t want to stop, or weather isn’t ideal to make a pit stop and hang out.

Shortly after leaving Port Alsworth from the Sourdough Fly-in, Eska, who was riding in the car seat in the back, threw up and was understandably fussy after.

We were approaching the top of the pass, and decided to land at the small strip in the pass and clean her up.

Once on the ground the kids jumped out, shoes were quickly thrown to the side, and they were running and playing in the sun, sand, and water.

One of my favorite things is spending time with my family in beautiful remote places and capturing it with my camera. Theres a part of me that feels guilty for taking so many pictures (and a side of me that gets overwhelmed from all the photos) but it brings me so much joy! I’ve accepted that it’s a form of creativity that fills my cup, and decided to just enjoy it.

Eska was much happier after being cleaned up and played in the sand as well.

As I wondered around I found a sunken lake tucked out of site. The teal lake and moss growing around the lake created a rainbow of colors. I couldn’t have been happier taking it all in.

As we headed back to the plane for a snack everyone made sure to tell Eska how grateful we were for the forced pit stop and opportunity to explore a new spot.

We definitely won’t hesitate to stop here again next time the opportunity arises.
