Kodiak- White Sands Beach

Our last day in Kodiak turned out to be sunny as forecasted. We had checked out White Sands Beach the day before when it was cloudy and cold, and we were excited to return with the sun shining.

A simple breakfast of yogurt and granola was made exciting with some fancy cups I found in the Air bnb. After breakfast we loaded up and headed for the beach.

It took about 15 minutes to get to the beach, and we could almost see the beach from the parking lot. It was quick walk over the creek and through the trees to the beach.

A river runs down the middle of the beach so we followed the beach to the left and found a particularly beautiful patch of white sand.

The kids were in heaven.

Dressing Eska in oversized coats seems to be the new fun thing to do. This time it was Melozi’s rain jacket that transformed her into purple Jedi. She walked around flapping her arms and bossing everyone around. We’ve dubbed her “Queen Eska” since everyone seems to cater to her every demand.

This summer I picked up a set of inexpensive acrylic markers and the kids have enjoyed coloring rocks everywhere we go.

A long time friend of Woodsen’s Dad lives in Kodiak, and was willing to meet up with us at the beach, so we caught up while the kids played.

Later in the day Melozi and I headed further down the beach to see what we could find in the tide pools before the tide came up.

We found a few starfish, colorful algae’s and lots of seaweed.

Soon it was time to head back to the airport to catch our flight. I couldn’t believe we had enjoyed three beach days on Kodiak. It was a first experience that seemed hard to beat!

After a short forty-five minute flight were were back in Anchorage.

When Woodsen and I started dating one of the first things we found in common was our love for Moose’s Tooth pizza and Apple Ale. Ending every adventure with their pizza and beer was a like the cherry on top of our adventures. At one point I even joked that our adventures were fueled by Mooses Tooth.

Now that we live in the valley we’ve shifted our traditions, but this was the perfect opportunity to revisit an old tradition. This time with four kids in tow.

Another amazing Alaskan adventure as a family.
